Flow

    Originality

I believe every rapper was once a fan of rap. All of us had our 'being a fan' phase. But one problem I’ve seen with many aspiring rappers, even myself, is that we idolize rappers so much we end up sounding like them. One more thing i have experienced is that if am on an artist spree and checkin’ out all of his/her discography then i later end up writing a song copying his flow or at least have a certain influence. Most the times, I even search up the particular artist style beat and write similar. This is not the right way to do it. Find your own style. It’s about time you said “fuck your idol”.

 Flow

Jayz has that laid back style, eminem is more of an aggressive guy, twista’s pace can make your head spin. But the question is what defines their style??  Their motherfucking flow does. Packin’ a dope ass flow might be more important than havin a good piece of lyrics sometimes. So now the question is how can we get a flow like that? Its easy - practice.

1. Study as many rappers as you can but dont copy them
2. Freestyle a capella (thinking of a beat in ur head or tappin’ your feet to give yourself internal metronome)
3. Write on different style beat, not just the particular type that u like.
4. Learn a little melody or practice singing to give your flow a little variation.
5. Get obsessed with the idea of creating your own unique flow.

Inspiration and Passion

Inspiration and Passion

Do you see the comment box below in this blog?? Scroll down to the end of this section and come back.Yes you do!! Write down the names of any 5 idols of yours there.

Don’t read below b4 you write the names in the comment box.

Okay now, let’s continue. I bet all of them were names of rappers. What I actually wanted to see was the names of rappers as well as other people or any public figure that inspires you. That way, you embody the spirit of many souls and not just that of a rapper. My suggestion would be to get inspired by anything and everything possible because that way you embody all that’s right in the world and not just a few names of rappers and end up being their fan.

When you doing anything creative, the most important thing you must have, before the skills, is your passion and love for the art. Always be willing to learn and receptive to criticisms. Don’t ever let your passion die because of your haters. No matter which style of rap you do, embrace it because it is your style. Don’t let others vibes get into yours and ruin your style of art. You can definitely experiment with it though.

I will post more tomorrow.  Keep rappin’ because I know you love to do it ;)

how to rap 1

THE RAPPER'S CODE

Your idol is original, are you??

“I’d rather die enormous than live dormant.” – Jay Z.

“If you have the opportunity to play this game called life, you have to appreciate every moment. A lot of people don't appreciate their moment until it's passed.”-Kanye West.

“I'm never gonna die, never heard of death, energy can never be destroyed only the flesh.”-Nas.

Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.

Begin with the end in mind.
